~ About the Club ~
2010 marks the 12th year for our club. We are sponsored by the UKC (United Kennel Club) & HRC (Hunting Retriever Club).
The Kankakee River HRC is the 101st Hunting Retriever Club to be organized in the United States and Canada. We currently host 2 UKC licensed Hunt Tests per year, one in the spring and one in the fall. These tests are for members of the HRC & UKC to test their dogs against a set standard, not competing against other dogs. This provides each dog with a opportunity to earn a Title.

~ Training Days ~
Kankakee River HRC holds Training Days twice a month at the Grand Kankakee Marsh County Park in Lowell, Indiana, Jack Hansen's House, or Dawn to Dusk.  At our Training Days, we have three groups of dogs: puppies or "Started Dogs", a middle group "Seasoned Dogs", and the advanced session for "Finished Dogs". For the started dogs we initially have a short obedience session. We then provide the option of using clipped birds for the pup to simply chase, and perform short water and land retrieves. We then focus on single land and water retrieves, steadiness and delivery. For the Seasoned Dogs we work on double retrieves and blinds ( with the distance varying on participation), steadiness and delivery. for the Finished Dogs we work on triple retrieves, honoring, casting, handling, and steadiness. We purchase ducks and pigeons though donations from the members to use at our Training Days. For Dates See the Event Page
